Welcome to our weblog!

This weblog is our online journal. You'll find my opinions on a variety of topics as well as links to other things on the web that I find interesting. For now I won't pick on the useless Navarro County Planning and Zoneing or how backwards most of Corsicana is, although Corsicana is getting better. Not to mention the property taxes are so high around the lake many people are moving away. But fishing and camping is still great.     www.midwaylanding.com

Richland Chambers Lake Level Full by Monday?

There's a good chance with the run off we're getting now and the rain on the way tonight Richland Chambers Reservoir could be full by Monday. As of right now we are 3ft 3in low and rising fast.
Maybe now the BUTT HEADS at Oak Cove Mariana will quite lying about being the only boat ramp that is useable on Richland Chambers. I guess they or lying because they charge $8.00 for a boat launch and they don't want people to find out Fishersmans Point is $6.00 and us (Midway Landing) are $4.00. Yes they did some dredging but so did Fishermans Point and Midway Landing. This will bite them in the butt because coustomers that found out they were lying say they will never use them again. Oh well as Forest says "Stupid as Stupid does".

Crappie were doing great in shallow water on minnows and jigs. However with the rising muddy water they may slow down.
Catfish should remain great on rod&reel mostly being caught shallow 1 to 4ft. Also in creeks that have running water lots are being caught with several limits coming in. Shad or Danny King's Catfish are doing best. Jug liners have been catching some large Blue Cats on live perch. We weighed in 4 over 50lbs this week. Trotliners are starting to catch some good yellow cats. 7 over 35lbs this week.
Sand Bass and Hybrids have been doing fairly good but with the muddy water coming in they may slow down. The best Hybrids are being caught 20 to 30ft deep using live Shad. Sand Bass coming off humps and points on slabs or spoons.
Black Bass started doing good up shallow on lizards and spinner baits but with the lake on the rise the good part may change but I would keep shallow.

Richland Chambers Lake Level Now Above 6 Feet

Richland Chambers Reservoir level is now closing in on 5 1/2ft low. Plus we have more rain on the way. The water was stained before this last rain so it won't be any clearer for a couple of weeks. Lots of people have been looking for grass on the lake but no reports of any yet.

Sand Bass & Hybrids have been fair. Most being caught off humps and points 18 to 24ft deep. If this warm weather keeps up it won't be long before we see some surfacing fish. Hybrid+Striper+Lures

Catfish have been outstanding. Catching a mix of Channel Cats and Blue Cats Rod & Reelers are doing best fishing 2 to 4ft of water using shad or Punch Bait . Most down here use Danny King's Catfish Bait. Jug liners are doin good on live perch and cut shad. Most are putting lines in 10 to 20ft of water.

Crappie are starting bite a little but not real good yet. Most being shallow in 1 to 5ft of water.

Black Bass have been good off and on. Most being caught 5ft and less deep around cover. Plastic jerk baits, Rattle Traps, Spinner baits and jigs have all been working.

Richland Chambers Reservoir Lake Level 6.5ft Low

Our lake level on Richland Chambers Lake has been creeping up since the heavy rains a few weeks ago. The boat ramps here at Midway Landing, Fishermans Point and Oak Cove are all useable. Most if not all of the free public access ramps cannot be used at this time.

I guess Luke (pay me & I’ll say your good) Clayton is starting to feel like Johnny Davis or Jerry Dean  felt when a large group of fishermen started to dislike or distrust them. If Luke Clayton didn’t know it there are 2 fair size fishing organizations that aren’t happy with him. Now they now know what I’ve known for several years and that is Luke is in it for Luke Clayton & luke’s pocket book.

Around 19 years ago Luke did the fishing report for a major newspaper in Dallas. He had lake reporters around the state he would call for his reports and I was the one for Richland Chambers until he left that paper. He would give us a plug in the paper once in awhile for doing this. If he felt a reporter was not being honest he could simply find another one without a contract being broke or being offered more money to keep them.

At the same time I was doing (and still do) a radio report for Texas State Network’s Fishing show with Jay Durkin on Saturday & Sunday mornings. The format was set up to have Guides and Business operators around Texas lakes call in and give live reports. Jay went out and found reporters on each lake and made sure they were honest and well respected at no cost to the reporter. Jay has since has moved on and Brian Hughes has taken over and does as good if not a better  job carrying on that tradition for almost 20 years now.

When I was still giving reports to Luke Clayton he would always comment that Jay or the radio show was not good at all. I never understood this then but I do now that he has his own radio show. Back then we kicked ass on Barry Stokes fishing show on WBAP and they went off the air. So how could it be bad? Plus to still be around for almost 20 years. Click here for stations in your area.

Well Luke’s show has been around awhile now and has nowhere near the listeners as Brian Hughes show. Luke does have a few good reporters along with a few jerks but if you got the bucks he’ll let you talk.

The way I look at it if you are not paying to give a fishing report you tend to be more honest. Imagine paying $50.00 to $100.00 to say the fish aren’t bitting!

I still give fishing reports to several publications and newspapers without being charged. I will not say fishing is great when it’s not. Ok now on with the fun stuff.

We are creating a free service for catfish guides anywhere in the world. You will get a free web page with your information and photos plus a link to your website if you have one.

Catfish on jug lines is your best bet right now. 15 to 25ft of water baited with shad or perch. Several in the 25 to 30lb range reported this week. Rod&reelers hit the standing timber in 10 to 20ft of water and bait with shad or Punch Bait.

Black Bass fishing has been slow due to our stained cold water. A few have been caught slow rolling spinner baits in 5 to 8ft of water around heavy cover. Also a few have been caught on dark colored jigs in the same areas. Most fish have been small up to around 3lbs.

Sand Bass have been fair off and on. Most being caught off points and humps in 20 to 25ft of water on slabs and spoons. Not a lot of limits but still some good numbers.

No Crappie showing up yet but if we can get a little warm up they will start bitting in the backs of creeks.

We carry most Texas lake maps in the Lake Products, Fishing Hot Spots and Hook-n-Line. Click Here

The Shores of Richland Chambers Reservoir Finally Coming Up

As of today  Richland Chambers Lake is now about 8 1/4ft low and rising.

Our Boat ramp is back in business although the lake is muddy and it’s gonna be cold as heck this week. We should keep getting runoff this week so the lake level should come up another foot or two.

With the muddy cold water fishing will  be slow this week. However catfishing should be good in the creeks that have running water.  A good stink bait (Like Danny King’s) or shad should work great in these areas.

If your hunting Sand Bass check around humps or points about 23 to 30ft deep. The bite will be slow due to the stained water.

Crappie: Don’t even bother till next month

Black Bass: Here again with the cold and stained  water conditions they will be slow to bite. They don’t normally move real deep in the winter here so key on heavy cover in 5 to 8ft of water. Jigs and slowed rolled spinner baits will most likely best.

Due to the positive feedback from people who have purchased the ebook Largemouth Bass Extreme we’ll keep a link to it. If you fish Club tournaments or larger open tournaments even if your a beginner to Bass fishing this book will help. At least thats the feedback we’ve got so far.

Richland Chambers Reservoir Expecting Heavy Rain (Keep your fingers crossed)

Richland Chambers Lake is now around 11 1/2ft low. Our recent light rains have at least soaked the ground so we should get some run off from the rains coming this afternoon.

Sand Bass & Hybyrds have moved a little deeper with most being caught 25 to 30ft deep. Slabs and spoons working best with some of the larger stripers coming on large gizzard shad.

Catfish still doing good on jug lines in 15 to 25ft of water baited with live perch. Not many rod &reel fishing but the ones that are doing good on Danny King’s Catfish Bait or Shad.10 to 20ft deep.

Black Bass doing fair however not many fishing for them so it’s hard to get a good pattern. Most have been caught on spinner baits in 6 to 10ft of water holding tight to cover. Here’s a link to a Bass Fishing ebook that may help you win more money in bass tournaments or more bragging rights in club tournaments. It is a instant download and has a 100% money back Gurantee Bass Fishing Extreme.

Also for those of you who love to fish for Carp for fun or bait here’s a great ebook on Carp fishing. It also comes with a 100% money back Gurantee. Carp Fishing Secrets

The shores of Richland Chambers getting smaller

Now at 11 feet low there's a lot of dry land showing up around the shores of Richland Chambers lake. Just about the entire A/C hump is out of water and you can drive out on it via County road SE1270 close to Wooded Acres on the south side of the lake. Bring your Lake Map to make notes on if you come.

Sand Bass are moving to the humps but instead of being on top of them they are hanging around the edges because of the low lake levels.
Catfish are doing good on jug lines baited with live perch in 15 to 25ft of water. Mainly blue cats.
Black Bass are fair in 3 to 5ft of water around timber or brush piles. Most are coming on spinner baits but a few are comming on jigs.

Not many fishing and hardly any duck hunters most are going to lake Limestone. You can still put in at Fishermans Point and Oak Cove but be careful they both have problems.

If you need a little help with club tournaments or open tournaments here's one of the top selling Ebooks for only $29.95 plus you get tons of free software. It comes with a 100% money back Guaranteed. Click here for info

As for me we're off to play the slots and try this new book I downloaded for under $50.00. What the heck I'm spending more than that in gas to get there. Plus it also comes with a 100% money back offer also. Slot Secrets

Richland Chambers Reservoir 10 feet low

Not many people fishing on Richland Chambers the last few weeks but if your fishing our lake or just about any other lake in Texas and need a map check these out. Texas Lake Maps Also since the lake is so far down you my want to mark cover, humps or channels that will not be visiable once the lake fills up. GPS on Ebay

Crappie are starting to enter their “It’s winter so we’re not gonna bite” stage. A few are still being caught but that will most likely end after the next cold front.

Sand Bass should remain good as they start to hang around Humps and points in 18 to 26ft of water. You will need a good depth finder to locate these.

Black Bass have been fairly good. Not a lot of large fish being caught but some pretty good numbers of smaller fish coming on top water baits. Fishing a pop-r or buzzbait in 2 to 4ft of water around stick ups and heavy timber early mornings has been most productive. Up in the day a spinner bait in 4 to 6ft of water in the same areas is working best.

The jug liners are starting to catch catfish a little better in size using shad or perch. Rod &reelers doing fair in 8 to 12 ft of water using shad or Punch Bait.

1972-73 16″ Ideal Stand up and Cheer Shirley Temple with box back in stock

This has been our top seller for Shirley Temple Dolls this year. We had more of these on hand last month than ever before. Now we have just a few left but should be recieveing more shortly. However since sales have been so good on this Shirley we will try to continue to offer free shipping on this doll.

The 12″ Ideal Stand up and Cheer from the 80’s has also been hard to keep in supply. Last year it was the 8″ that was hard to keep.

The Birthstone Barbies in the blonde are getting harder to find and have been our best sellers although we are out of some of the blondes for different months.

Oak Cove on Richland Chambers, stupid or what?

Richland Chambers is now a little over 8ft low. You can still launch at Midway Landing, Fisherman's Point and Oak Cove. However at Oak Cove you will pay a hefty $8.00 for a boat launch. I normally would not mention that but there is a real BUTT HEAD that works at Oak Cove and is telling everyone the ramps at Midway Landing and Fisherman's Point are closed.

Crappie have been doing great 15 to 25ft of water suspended down 8 to 20ft. Most being caught on minnows.

Catfish are biting on rod&reel in 12 to 18 ft of water on Shad, Grasshoppers and Danny King's Catfish Bait. Several good size Blue Cats being caught in the 4 to 6lb range. Some of the better ones are being caught suspended around timber.

Sand bass are surfacing early mornings and being caught on rattle traps and tiny torpedoes. Later in day they are moving down on humps or points 15 to 25ft deep. Slabs, spoons and Little Georges working best on the bottom.

Black Bass biting top water baits early till around 8:00am in 4 to 8ft of water holding close to timber. Up in the day being caught in the same areas on spinner baits or Texas rigged worms. A few reports of some being caught on humps or pond dams 10 to 15ft deep. No good color pattern at this time.

Sticker Shock!!!

Forgot to mention about someone telling me that Oak Cove is now charging $8.00 for a boat launch. I figured it was just a roumor since there are so many down here. I called them up and sure enough they are charging $8.00. In their defense they did do a lot of dredging to get their boat ramp back in shape with the low water levels. Right now we are $4.00 for a boat launch or access but ya’ll can give me more if you like.

That’s all for now and thanks, Larry Winters

New line of Texas Lake Maps Coming Soon

Before I get into the lake map thing or the fishing reports I just want to say we did get some rain. Richland Chambers Reservoir has come up over a foot the last week and is still rising. We are going to get rain just about all week.
We have had request to carry the Top Spot Fishing Maps / Pasadena Hot Spot Fishing Maps. These maps well known to Texas Anglers a few years ago. They are hard to find now but the only reason is that the name changed. They are still top quality fishing maps just with a different name. They do cost a little more than the others but are well worth it. We will have them on our site soon. Texas Lake Maps
Catfishing has been great on rods using Danny King's Catfish Bait or shrimp with lots of limits. Most being caught in 2 to 4ft of water but some being at just about any depth. Jug and trot lines doing good baited with live perch.
Black Bass have been good fishing shallow 2 to 6ft deep with lizards, spinner baits and rattling baits. Some good size bass being in the 5 to 6lb range and a few up to 7lbs. Stumps and laydowns holding the better numbers of fish.
Sand Bass have started schooling a little scattered through out the lake. Watch for the birds and use a Rattle Trap, Tail spinner or shallow running crank bait.
Crappie scattered but starting to be caught in 14 to 25ft of water around timber suspended. Minnows working best.
Thanks, Larry&Janeen

Lake Richland Chambers over 5 1/2 feet low

Richland Chambers Reservoir is still over 5 1/2 ft low but our boat ramp here at Midway Landing is still fine.
Catfish have been going crazy for most folks with lots of limits on rod and reels using shad or Danny King's Catfish Bait. Frozen shad are working fine but fresh seem to be doing a little better. Catching the fresh shad has been spoty. We need a little more warm up on the water to get them moving up to the bank. Maybe next week. Jug and trotlines are doing good baited with live perch with a few yellow cats showing up.
Black Bass off and on fair. Most coming shallow on spinner baits or lizards. Not a lot of big fish showing up but several in the 2 to 4lb range. 1 to 4ft seems to be best.
Sand Bass fair with most being caught suspended 8 to 15ft deep. A few are starting to surface and being caught on rattle traps or tail spinners.
Not a lot going on with the crappie. The creeks they normally move into this time of year are mostly dried up but it won't be long before they move out to their summer homes.
Thanks, Janeen & Larry

Richland Chambers Lake level still dropping

Richland Chambers Reservoir is a little over 5 1/2ft low now. Cold weather the last few days will slow down Black Bass and Sand Bass. The weather should not bother the Catfish at all.
Black Bass are starting to respond to lizards with a few being caught in 3 to 5ft of water. Spinner baits seem to be doing a little better slow rolling around grass or brush 3 to 6ft deep.
Catfish doing good using shad or punch baits ( Danny King's ) Most being caught 2 to 8ft deep. Jug lines baited with perch working good in 12 to 18ft of water.
Sand bass are still mainly being caught on humps or points 20 to 28ft deep. Spoons or slabs working best. Thanks, Janeen&Larry
